I have several tapes, VHS. Some of puppy imprinting/socializing, others of training and some of actual trials (Regional & National competition). I would very much like to see how the other side of the world trains/trials their AST's.
Anyone interested in trading tapes?
Please email me direct, MsAlpha2U@aol.com
Thanks, Leri

I am not looking to give away my tapes. I am interested in TRADING or EXCHANGING tapes (i.e. I send you a tape, you send me a tape).
The question has been asked if there are any differences in European VHS and American VHS. Also, if there would be damage shipping a tape and going through the sensor machine. Does anyone know the safest way to ship VHS tapes internationally?
Dakota, if you are serious, please contact me privately at MsAlpha2U@aol.com
Thanks, Leri

Hi leri ,
Great idea but there is a problem when you want to exchange with any european country. The reason is because we cant watch your tapes and you can't watch ours. There is a difference in systems , but a solution might be putting the video's on dvd of cd rom ! But not on vhs , that has to be encrypted and is very costly.

Hi John,
Thanks for the info. I'm not sure how to go about transfering video footage to CD or DVD. I know how to put pictures onto CD, but thats about it. I'll check with our local camera place and see what they offer in transfer services.
Again, thanks for the info!

Hi leri ,
For that you will need some computer stuff , a vcr ( vhs or any) and a special card on your computer..so that you can attach your vcr to the PC. When you want to record long movies you will also need a hugh harddrive ..if im not mistaken its taking one Gigabyte per minuut ..depending on how big your making it. But there is another cheaper way ..you will need to have a firewire card , that way you can attach your vcr to that and record with a program ..like windows movie maker or adobe premiere. Then burn it on a cdrom or dvd and exchange to others , that must do the same ..its allot of work and costly ..but once you have the stuff its much cheaper then encryping every vhs tape.

Maybe you can find a store where they can do that for you so you dont have to buy all that expensive stuff yourself. Im sure the internet can tell you a store nearby.

O than I was right on that.
When working in a hifi I I was told that USA tapes didn't work on our machines, only on the very expensives ones from JVC.
I'm interested in the tapes but I don't have dogs yet so I can't send you tapes in return. the only tape that I got is one of a report ''deadly dogs'
Maube I can lend te tape from somebody who's exchaging it with you and is living in europe.
Thanks anyway.

I've converted some North American VHS tapes to European formats. It wasn't expensive, $20-$30, just check the yellow pages of your phone book.... However! there are 2 or 3 different european formats so you have to find out which one the person you are sending the tape to is using..... hope this helps,

Hi dan , Are you sure that we have more formats ? I have never heard we did , i can see any european vhs movie but cant watch any american or australian vhs movie.
I think its much better , faster and cheaper to burn a cd from the movie , maybe there is a member that has all the necesarry stuff to do that ( i don't ) Dvd is also possible , but only on region free players.

yes I'm sure that there are more than one european format.... in the past year I sent some home video to relatives in Hungary and I was asked which format... actually the difference in the formats is in the way the TV's process the info on the tape. Over here you can buy recoders that can transfer the tapes, but they are expensive. hope this info helps.

I didnt know that , i only knew that vhs is the format that vcr's have and there where two different formats / types of systems.
I still think burning it to CD-Rom is the best way. Im getting a special card , and put on my firewire and put a vcr hocked to my computer ..and later get a dvd burner to burn all types of dvd's if i want.

John,
Although I appreciate the offer to sell cd/dvd/tape of working dogs/training/trials via your site, I really have little interest in doing that. I am only interested in TRADING. I will however, see what I can do to get you some of my better footage. Afterall, you put so much effort into making this a nice forum for us all, it's the very least I can do :-)
I am surprised though to not see more folks interested in exchanging. Several have contacted asking for a copy, but having nothing to exchange in return.
Camcorders are so inexpensive these days, I just assume everyone has one? I mean, if you have a computer, don't you normally have a camcorder as well. Is it not the norm to tape your trainings/litters/trials etc? I go in spurts but almost always have a camera in hand or am asking someone to just point and shoot. It's the BEST form of self critique that I've found.
UPDATE - just bought a new program that allows me to transfer "home movies" onto disc. I'll just need someone to help me figure it out. Please be patient :-)
Bye fur now, Leri ca-k9services.com
