Hello!
Recently I came across Fred Hassen and his Remote Collar Dog Training System. In my training days Ive seen training with e.collar and it was not pretty. So now Im realy confused. In our country e.collar training is not allowed by law. So what is the real truth behind all this. I know all about that it should be used only by proffesionals, but Im still not convinced. I did hear that recently they been using clicker training in combination with e.collars. So what do you think?
regards,
Maja

I know that its still used overhere , i have seen some people use it on dogs that i'd not trusted with my daughter , if you know what i mean. Im against this kind of 'training' , but i dont know what this fred hassen has to do with e collar training ?
I dont believe in clickertraining either - possitive training without saying a word doesnt work. There has been studies from behaviourspecialists saying it doesnt work , and i have always said it to. Maybe for some dogs , that are easy going and alone with the people , but not when you have them in a group and one is alpha.

We call those collars , teletact overhere. They are collars that can give a electric shock in teh neck of the dog , with remote controle as you know. I think we have been talking about the same .

Hallo! In Sweden this kind of collar is forbidden by law.
My opinion training dogs - never ever hurt them in any way, make them happy following you.
I have a book about obedience: "Happy, obedience dogs". Be friendly with your dog, have fun!

Hello!
I totally agree with you. But I still can not get over of what I read about him. How can he openly promote the use of this collar? On this internet site and other who use this method you can seen toy pudles and other small breeds with a collar on. I just dont understand!!!!

Hi there! I don't know that person, but whether it's a teletac or a clicker: both can be hell and both can be a gift - every tool is as good as it's user. Teletact: The good thing about a tele is, that the dog doesn't know where the impulse comes from and you can reach over a long distance. Very low impulse levels with hardly any pain (just that awkward electric tickle)can be enough to correct dogs that otherwise could only be handled by hard leash work or worse treatment. The most common use is to distract dogs from hunting, my malinois lives in peace now with the chicken... The e-collar is really a useful tool, but it can obviously be a horrible thing in the hands of the wrong people. The clicker: The clicker is a wonderful tool because you can give a neutral signal for something positive. It just gets conditioned with food so the dog associates food with the sound. That way you can very pointedly tell the dog "well done", when you don't have the actual treat handy in time. The "hardliners" who promote clickertraining without actually speaking to the dog must be nuts though, they don't know what they're missing. But to see a clicker dog learn something is an amazing experience, because in clickertraining there's no "no", no correction, so the dogs feel free to try everything and thus learn stunningly fast. Both instruments clicker and tele are powerful, good or bad is only determined by the user. Greetings Mareike
