Hello,
I saw there are people over here who are training or have trained their AST or APT for ringsport. As far as my knowledge goes this is equivalent to KNPV over here in the Netherlands. But over here it's forbidden to participate in this training with a AmStaff. Can anyone tell me more? Is there ringsport (french, belgian etc.) in the Netherlands beside KNPV? Can i / we participate in this. If not, does anybody know why not?

In italy i have seen them training for frenchring , this looks allot like what we call the KNPV , the defence part goes allot further then the sleeve ..they used their whole suite instead. I'm not sure if there is a possibility in holland to participate in these kind of dogsports. Or we have to move to italy some day. john

Hi Dan, Thanks for the link... ;D After some intensive searching on this site and the links i have to conclude there's no Dutch participation in this sport. But our Belgium neighbours seem to be very busy with this ring. So maybe i should check it over there since i only live about 10km away from Belgium I will keep you informed about it, and i've to check if i'm allowed to participate over the border... Will

well Mondioring was created back in the late 80's I believe. It is mostly a combination of french ring and beligium ring. It was created so that all the various national sports had one place to play. There is OB, jumps and protetion. There is very little pattern training involved as every trial is little or a lot different. ie, the heeling pattern is created by the jugde day of the trial and the retieve article is picked by the judge just before the trial. First comes OB the jumps then prtoection. But the order of the individual exercises is drawn at the start of the trial. In the protection there are no hits on the dog, but very loud and otherwise distracting "articles" are used to "impress" the dog. Here too, the "articles" change from trial to trial. So basically you have to train your dog so that "nothing is new". ie, in schH the retrieve is the dumb-bell and in french ring it is a sock, but in mondioring the retrieve article can be anything under 1 kg in weight and not made of metal....
hope it helps dan

Hi! Ringsport is the king of sports. It's amazing to watch, I can really just recommend to try and see a test if you can! To my knowledge the Belgians selected their dogs (Malinois) through that sport since the early 1900s. The PO stayed unchanged since then, it was developed to make sure dogs could be selected for their ability to work as police dogs etc. I don't think that IPO or SchH is a good criteria for that (which was originally the idea for that sport aswell). Both you can teach, whereas in Belgian or French Ring the dog must be good. The reason is that SchH is always the same scheme - so any dog that can be motivated can be taught SchH. Middle prey drive is enough, and even a rather shy dog can be taught to not back off, purely through conditioning and repetition. You don't nessecarily need a self-assured dog. An author of a Malinois-book put it in nice words: In Mondioring, the best dog wins - not the cleverest doghandler. In IPO and SchH you can take a middle-class-dog, work hard - and pass. This is the reason in my eyes that the french dogs are still so good (healthy etc.) as opposed to the german shepherd. Their sport is a proper selection for a dograce - SchH just shows which dog can be taught. Here's a nice link: www.mondioring.ch/eindex.htmlIf interested, you'll just have to look for Malinois or Mechelaar - where you find those dogs, ringsport is not far;). Greetings bones
