It is important to respond to this cause it is the only way we have to gauge participation. FIRST ANNOUNCEMENT
WORKING AMERICAN PIT BULL
EASTERN REGIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP
The Working American Pit Bull Association intends to hold an Eastern regional championship in the fall of 2004, probably in late September or early October. The event would be in southern Maryland, near Washington, D.C. We need to know how many people would come to this event and support the breed by taking part. We need to demonstrate to the general dog fancy and the public that our breed is a sound and capable working dog.
We have not made final plans for the program, but we would hold several different competitions, and based on the results choose two Working American Pit Bull Regional Champions, one male and one female. We would offer conformation, obedience, protection. We will have one or two other events selected based on your expressions of interest. We are considering tracking, agility, and weight pull, but we are open to other suggestions. To win the championship, you would have to compete in at least three areas, including protection.
We would design all events for dogs with no experience in that area. We will award ribbons for the top three participants of each sex in each area, so you could compete in one or two areas even if you did not want to compete for the championship.
You can earn extra points toward the championship if you can DEMONSTRATE that you already have titles in conformation or any working area. Generally you will need official scorebooks or certificates to demonstrate earlier achievements. We will recognize all areas, including
* Conformation championships, canine good citizen, American Temperament
Test; (one extra point)
* working titles such as Schutzhund or Ring Sport; (two extra points) and
* working service dogs such as scent detection dogs and search and rescue dogs. (Three extra points)
Entry fees would be about $20 in advance for each event, and $25 after the registration cut-off date. We would also charge $5 per area to evaluate your claims to existing titles.
We hope that there will be a similar event on the West Coast, and perhaps one in the center of the country. If we have two or three successful regional Championships, we will hold a National Championship later in 2004 in a central location.
Please email Annetta Cheek mailto:acheek@patriot.net if you are interested in this event. Please put
