I am wondering where i should start with my 10 Month old Amstaffs training... She is already very behaved, and very obedient, but i have no experience in training for tracking, or in defence. Any tips or advise would be greatly appreciated.
Thx

Hi karma
To begin with a obedience training is always wise , its great for your dogs development and social behaviour. It doesnt mean you have to do it , but i believe it makes the dogs better , they understand the way to look at you as the leader of the pack .
I find it great to train and to see the dogs progress , you will learn from it , as well as your dog will.
Enjoy training and start with something simple first.

Hello Karma, We will also start with obience training in dogschool too. First we will go to puppy class to socialise the dog also (the other days we will take him for walks which will be not too long because of the puppylegs the first period ( ) but anyway we will start in puppyclass and go to a, b, c ... I think those classes are fun for you and the dog to get to know each other, to get to know other dogs as well, to learn how a dogs thinks, how he acts and how wa can act when things don't go as how we want them to go. All our intructers did exams to become a instructer in dogschool , so they have some way ahead (they know things better in general) then you as new owner. Then why i find obience class also ok is that the dog gets some showtraining (looking at his teeth, ears, nails, stand still,... I think those classes are a basic (if you are a crack in dogs those classes can be given by yourself because some have the good experience like breeders that breed since 10 yaers or so) the basic for all further dogsports ... i hope you get response because i'm only a beginner

Hello Karma! Tracking and bitework I have started very soon with my male "Zeus". I think he was 3 month old. Obedience training I have started late with 13 month. But now I think it was a little bit to late, becauce at this age Zeus was a really strong boy and I have had some problems to train him. He always wanted to do it his way. But now he is a very good working dog. He has finished the SchH1 and in the end of this year we will try to make the SchH2. I think it`s wrong to start training with every dog at the same age, becauce with some you can start soon and the other needs a little bit longer. You must find the right time to start training with your dog. Regards Ulli

Most important is to find a club where you can get started , its very important that you and your dog will get leasons from experianced trainers. They know exactely what you have to do , and they see the mistakes you make much better then you can. They also see when you are ready for defence training.
