Hello
Maybe puppytime is very short ahead for me so i have a few questions as well.
I prefer to give my dog a dry food but is it necesary to give some vitamins or yohurt or something is to let him/her grow good or is the food the only thing that is very necesary?
i read that you can give the puppy/dog sometimes a little bit of vitamine C like in fruits. but is this good?
Thanks for helping

I use a good dry food as the basis for my puppies/dogs' diets. But I am always adding high-quality extras and I believe these are good for them. Things like raw hamburger, cottage cheese, yogurt, any fruits (bananas are a favorite!) and veggies they like, good canned food, etc. These are all good for them and they enjoy it. And I do change the dry food every once in a while. I've never used vitamins.
I don't believe in just the same dry food with nothing added day after day and year after year...

thanks for your answer, by vitamins i ment vitamine c d , ... that you can find in our food, not the vitamins you can buy in a drugstore. So do you give them every day yohurt or just till 6 months when they are pups?

Be it puppy or grown dog, I give a variety of things - one day it might be raw hamburger mixed in with the dry food, then next day yogurt, then cottage cheese, then maybe some leftover potatoes or spaghetti or meat and vegetable scraps from the table. I will also use beef and chicken hearts and liver, beef kidneys, etc. And some days the dog will get just his dry food.
I like to use a variety of things and it doesn't have to be every day. If your pup likes yogurt, 1/2 cup yogurt everyday won't hurt him, but I would add other foods also. I like my dogs to learn to like several different foods.
And no, I don't have trouble getting them to eat just the dry food, if that's all I have for them. I do make sure they like the dry food I am offering before I start adding goodies!

Yoghurt is a great product for young dogs , we have always given the pups yoghurt from the time they can eat it.
Im not to keen about raw hamburgers , since dogs can be allergiac to pork meat , but im not sure if american hamburgers also have pork meat inside - i think we have here ?!
We give them diner and dry food , and once in a while they get some rice or pasta's. They shine and are never to heavy , thats the best indication for a healthy dog , just look at the dog and see if they are healthy , tehn you can be sure that what you give them is good ( or not).

Thanks for helping Most puppyfood contains all the vitamins that pups need , so if you give that to them and some yoghurt , i will be enough for them. We have also given some fish , and they loved it , but mainly dry dogfood and yoghurt is what we gave/give. john

Most important is that your puppy doesn't get too much protein (max 27% in the food), they often develop allergic problems with skin or stomach. Too much vitamins or minerals are at least as bad, vitamin a and d for example let's them grow too fast so the sinews and joints get overstrained. I never feed "classical" puppyfood cause it makes the puppies grow explosively - and everybody thinks that's great, instead they get huge health problems later. Rather let them grow slowly. I heard that 80% of hip-problems these days are from feeding mistakes: too much of everything. I give some fruits, vegetables or yoghurt every now and then purely for the dogs pleasure and some fish oil for the fur - that's it. I think everyone has his own philosophy on dogfood, you'll hardly find two people agree on one strategy. The problem is to find out the reason why a dog has got this or that problem. It might be the food, it might be genetic, it might be bad luck...

Dogs at a later age do need to get more eggwhites and proteins when they are into alot of training or very active. But like they all say , never too much - a well balanced dogfood is enough to feed your young dogs - just ad some good things like yoghurt to keep the blood clean and the flora going.

Maybe its asking for the know way but can I also give my pup now 11 weeks old yogurt thru his puppyfood ( dry)?? I give him now Pro Plan I'm not sure if this is a big name in dogfood but I keep myzelf to the instructions on the pakkage so I feed him nothing else..
But now i'm reading about the ways of feeding and seeing yogurt turning up in almost every reply I'm beginning to think to give him this too..
Has somebody a good advice for me..??
Erin...
