We are talking about working with your dog.. and raising him/her.. How about your spouse??? (Husband.. wife.. etc) Is she or he just as intresseted as yourselve? And working along with you? I can tell you, Sied wasn't working with me at first.. But... as the time went on.. he found out, that Rolex was really listening at me, not pulling the leash outside.. etc. ;D When Rolex became a year old.. he was really testing Sied.. Sied' eyes went open and wanted to train along! And now.. he's enjoying the training as much (well.. almost as much ) as I do!

This is a good subject mo , Well as a matter of fact , we came into the breed in 1988 , but didnt started training till 89. We had a boxer before we had a amstaff , and we trained the boxer for obedience ..which is another level then ipo or schH for sure. In the years carla and ouw daughter sylvahna almost always came with me on training. You know how it goes , the women in the cantine and the man on the field _ thats whats happening here LOL. Carla likes to watch the training , gives tips when im not able to see what the dogs doing ..and understands the way i train. Our daughter likes to train herself - in a few years we will give her the opportunity to own her own dog . As a matter of fact , Dingo was bought for her ;-)
This will all take place when we moved ..overhere in holland im not continueing training , breeding or showing ...

Very good question. I'm the most interested in training our dog, not only was the choise made by me in the first plays to own an amstaff. Micha was happy with my decision, he also likes the amstaff but he is not as grazy about them as I am. I' m more passionate , he loves the breed, i'm grazy about it. So the training will be given by me. Although he will go with me to the training, will walk with the dog, will play with it. He is more train-grazy lol. So training and showing (maybe) will be my "task". That is why I am happy to read all those answers about good training, lovely playing, and well behaviour of our breed. the more I learn, the more I can be a part of being a good owner. Doing my best and your remarks are welcome.

Hmm..Am I the only one with bad luck? And yes John, I definately know what you mean about the cantine ;D Only.. for whatever reason, at our club, most of the women are training and the guys are in the cantine! I think that the guys are a little too proud to make a nice high voice You've mentioned a good point by the way... That Carla tells you what your dogs do, when you can't see... There was a time, Rolex wasn't following that good... Always one step behind or infront... That's when I've asked my sister in law to bring a videocam.. So she could film me during the training.. You'll be suprised how much more you see, than when you're working! And Kim, I already thought so, you was the one who loved the AmStaff! But good, your Micha is going along with it! Greetz, Mo

I have been blessed. When I met Jeff, he was a CAT person, so when I brought home a Pit Bull, without telling him..it was tense ;D But within minutes, Santana had won him over and the rest is history.. Jeff is now our club helper and has put BHs on 3 dogs(he put the BH on my Pit Bull and I took her training over after he decided she was way too frustrating for him ).. I am still anxiously awaiting the day he gets his first SchH I..it was close last summer..but the dog only got 64 in tracking With his crazy work schedule his dogs don't get worked as much as they should be, and it is rough since he does the protection work for them most times too...but he is very supportive and we have a great time working dogs together..

Now I have to tell about our crazy "dogfamily" ;D My husband knew when he meet me, 20 years ago that my big love was dogs. When we moved togheter we bought our first Dachhound, then it came more of them... My husband hunt and thats one of the reason why he accept my Dachhounds, he´s the one teaching me the huntingtraining with the dogs. One day he look in a paper with different dogs, stayed at a picture at an Amstaff and said: What a beautyful dog, we should have one... I found one, many miles from where we live, and it was the only one for sale in Sweden for the time(at the serious breeder). When that Amstaff came to our house two days later,he said: I will never open my mouth again Two years later, at he´s birthday he get an Amstaff for present. At first he´wasn´t so happy but after a several kisses from the pup, he was satisfied. Train the Amstaffs is mostly my work, but he loves to do long walks with me and the Amstaffs...And the huntingtraining with them he enjoy. Our children is born with dogs, and they are very good with them. The children help to hold the dogs active. Carina

Great question!! It was my husband who got me interested in the breed some 18 years ago. He has had them all his life and truly loves and respects the breed, but as house/family dogs, not a sport dog. I took it a step further and started with a local behind the store dog training class. From there it sort of snowballed My husband does absolutely no training/handling, but feeds and cleans when I am off to the the events and/or out of town trialing (which seems to be often). And, it is no easy job as I almost always have multiple dogs here. My son (17)also helps tend to the mutts when I am gone and will sometimes help with decoy work when I am desperate to try and work out a trouble spot. He would be a real good dogman if he wasnt so interested in football and girlz My daughter (19) has a true love and gift with the animals. She is in an apartment right now that won't allow dogs, but hopes to be able to take one sometime soon. She helps me with my work which envolves traveling/handling the dogs. But of course, she's paid for her services. For the most part, the dogs are MY passion, but the family supports it in their own little ways. Sometimes I must slow down and try to balance family/dogs better as the family sometimes gets tired of me being gone so much with the animals. They sometimes forget that the dogs are not only my passion/hobby, but that they are also my business. Bye fur now, Leri
