Your Amstaff is not just a dog used as a coachpotatoo , well tell us about the great things you and your dog are involved with. Are you into obedience , SchH , IPO or any other type of dog sports ...tell us about it.

Hi tracy
You are one of the first i thought of , sending you this new url. I'm also looking forward to this allot , i have had this idea for quite a while now. But since i have enough time and i need to practize my webdesign skill , i just had to do something instead of sitting still.
On novembre the 25th i will have a as we say in holland a VZH exam , which means something like the exam you need to have before you can take the ipo/schutzhund exams.
Bonita is doing so well , she just loves to work - just like her sister and her mom .
take care - John

Hi John, For the the other members, since you know it allready. I'm training with 2 AmStaffs voor IPO. With my youngest, a female of about 18 months, i'm now busy training for her VZH-exame and hope to get it end this year or beginning next year. With my (macho) male , on the moment i'm not training since he has a bad knee-injury. Which is really bad luck since he was ready for his IPO-II exame. But now he has been operated and i hope i can start training with him again in about 4 - 6 months. So hopefully i still can do that IPO-II with him next year. If not he will retire and become a couch-potato...

Hi..
I would love to know more about your dogs..where is your male from?? And who are his parents?
I have been involved in Schutzhund for about 7 years now..my first dog was a Pit Bull Terrier who I trained/titled to a SchH 3. My boyfriend put the BH on her so I can't take the credit for that one..but he found her lack of tracking ability to be too frustrating to work so I got her and have been hooked on the breed ever since! I have 2 Am Staffs males now, so I hope one of them can be titled, my one boy just got back from the World show in Amsterdam, and he is my pretty boy, but he may be too soft for work while the other is a Tacoma dog and he is bred more for working drives....but I am also on the look out for a strong working AST that I can also show. That would be my ideal dog..

Hi Tracey, This evening i have to train... But i will check his pedigree for you tomorrow, sorry i don't know his parents official names by head. And i agree fully, a Amstaff with show and work qualities would be my ideal dog to... greetings Will PS What is the meaning of BH?

Hello Will- No rush on the pedigree, training of course is much more important! The BH (not sure of the German spelling off hand) is the temperament/obedience test before the Schutzhund I title. Take Care!

Hi tracy ,
I think this is the same as well call VZH , which is something like an exam divided in two parts , the first is a obedience part and the second is between all common things such as between traffic ( or near a mall). So the judge can see that the dog is social as well , the vzh comes before the ipo /schH , and without it we can't do any ipo/schH exams

Hi, I own five Amstaffs, and I am training with three of them. With my male, 6 years old I am training Obedience called GG2, (just an Obedience term), and for his fun Agility. He is so very fast I heardly can get ahead of him. With my bitch 4 years old I am training Obedience called GG1, and with my bitch 2 years old (daughter from the 4 year old bitch) I am training for VEG also just an Obedience term. Just starting a "showcareer"with the 2 year old bitch and that looks promising. The male has retired from his "showing" he did very well, just not enough to become Dutch Champion. I also teach Obedience and try to learn people to understand their dogs in raising their dogs. So as you can see, very very busy with dogs the hole week, and loving it :-) Monique

I believe the BH is Begleithund and it consists of 2 parts..the obedience part and then the traffic part.

So now we are sure ...BH is the same as VZH overhere. It was funny at the time i was in italy and watched schutzhund training the italians all spoke in german terms ...only one word they used was italian: terra ( meaning down) But you can imagion hearing the italians speak german to their dogs Tracy , i do have a question for you ...a long time ago i ahd contact with another canadian amstaff owner and trainer . If im not mistaken he had his own school / centre , maybe you know of him and are able to inform him about this site/forum. john

Other dogs sports overhere are EG , GG and GH ..there are more but all three has about the same goal > obedience. I think this is one of the most important part of any good dog ..if it was up to me i like to see puppy purchasers always taking courses ...till they have several diploma's. This makes it easier for us as well , i like to see more people involved working their amstaffs ..doesnt matter what kind as long as they are busy. john

Well I was always curious to what the VZH was so now I know I believe the person you are speaking of is Dan Butty..he is the only person I can think of in Canada who is working an Am Staff in protection sports besides me. His male Tunny has a Brevet in both Ring sport and Mondio Ring..and is a beautiful dog as well. It is a shame that the dog has never sired a litter..he is a nice dog! I'll pass along the info about this site.
